This morning, Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood announced that their Halloween Horror Nights event will not be held for 2020. Rather, Universal Orlando will focus “exclusively on operating its theme parks for daytime guests, using the enhanced health and safety procedures already in place,” according to the announcement. Due to ongoing restrictions in California, Universal Studios Hollywood has not yet opened to guests, and its opening time frame is uncertain.
The event’s cancellation at Universal Studios Hollywood comes to no surprise after aerial images showed the park dismantling its tents utilized for its mazes (haunted houses). Universal Orlando’s event was expected to continue with alterations, however, as the resort held auditions, set up its tribute store which sells Halloween Horror Nights branded merchandise, and placed signage at Fear Factor Live notifying guests of its closure for Halloween Horror Nights preparation.
Guests who have already purchased tickets or vacation packages to Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights can choose to use their ticket/package for next year’s event or may request a refund. Universal Studios Hollywood had not yet sold tickets for its event.
