Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights event officially kicked off on September 14th. This year’s event features nine overall experiences that guests can enjoy, including seven houses, a live show, and the Terror Tram. This year’s major houses are based on Netflix’s Stranger Things series, Poltergeist, and Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers.

Stranger Things joins Halloween Horror Nights for the first time with a highly immersive haunted house that allows guests to go deep inside the haunting world featured in the series and come face-to-face with the Demogorgon. This house is highly detailed, and it gives guests the opportunity to walk through memorable locations, such as Will Byers’ home and Hawkins Middle School.

Pictured above and below are up-close and distant images of the Demogorgon. The creature comes out at various locations throughout the house, and it perfectly recreates the monster seen in the series.

Guests will also come across several characters from Stranger Things, including Eleven.

Trick ‘r Treat is another house based on an intellectual property. The film joins Halloween Horror Nights Hollywood as both a house and a scare zone.

The facade for the Trick ‘r Treat house is decked out in orange lights, skeletons, and ghostly figures, the typical Halloween decorations shown in films.

Sam (seen in the above photo) plays a major role in the storyline of the house. You’ll have to play by his rules and traditions of Halloween or pay the ultimate price.

Guests will come across these characters, Sam, and others. If you’re venturing through the house, you will see Sam wearing a burlap sack with buttons as well as his unmasked face. Sam may appear childlike, but he’s a demonic creature with a pumpkin-shaped head resembling a skull.

The 1982 Poltergeist film comes to life at Halloween Horror Nights, and the house gives you the chance to experience it—not on screen—but in person. You’ll start off by entering the infamous house built atop a cemetery.

Restless spirits have overrun the house, and they’re drawn to your light, trying to lure you into a place between life and death.

Poltergeist has been one of the most popular houses at this year’s Halloween Horror Nights event.

And there’s a good reason why. The house has outstanding sets that give the impression that you’re a part of the horror.

The Purge once again joins the Halloween Horror Nights lineup. This year’s Purge experience is a house that revolves around The First Purge, the all-new film that was released in theaters this year.

Due to the repetition of the Purge at Halloween Horror Nights, this photo update will not focus on it. The Horrors of Blumhouse has been excluded from this update to highlight the more exciting experiences.

Universal Monsters is the second house you’ll come across; it’s located nearby The Walking Dead Attraction.

As the name suggests, you’ll encounter the Universal monsters, including Frankenstein and his bride (shown below).

Located at the front of the park is Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers. In this experience, Michael has escaped the sanitarium, and he’s out for more kills.

As always, Michael appears wherever you turn. Halloween 4 brings everything fans loved from the previous Halloween houses.

This year’s Terror Tram is hosted by Hollywood Harry (attached below). The attraction transports you into a nightmare of carnage that pits you against unspeakable horrors.

You’ll journey through five bedtime stories and attempt to survive chainsaw-wielding monsters.

The horrific characters come too close for comfort.

The following two images show the Trick ‘r Treat scare zone.

Just as the Trick ‘r Treat house, the scare zone also features eye-popping Halloween decorations that really make it stand out.

The two pictures below (in order from top to bottom) show the Hell’s Harvest scare zone and the Holidayz in Hell scare zone.

At the end of the night, you can purchase Halloween Horror Nights memorabilia. Universal Monsters merchandise are available for you to buy.

A wide variety of Stranger Things merchandise is for sale.

Some scare zones, merchandise, and houses have been excluded from this photo update. Universal Studios Hollywood’s Halloween Horror Nights event will run on select nights through November 3rd.
